PBL Academy lecture by Harriet Bulkeley
On 12 October Professor Harriet Bulkeley (Durham University) will deliver a PBL Academy lecture, titled: Governance by Experimentation: climate politics and the city.
The 2015 Paris Accord appears to be a shift in both how climate change is understood as a problem together with a recognition of the multiplicity of agents, sites and forms of response that has fundamentally re-orientated our perspective on what it means to govern the climate. A shift which has heralded a new mode of governance. Governance by experimentation.
The rise of governance by experimentation is most apparent in the urban arena. The experimental city is everywhere. Seeing experiments as isolated examples however maybe overlooking a not to be missed opportunity to address the challenges of sustainability in a meaningful way.
In her lecture, Harriet Bulkeley will explore this emergence of governance by experimentation drawing on a range of examples from Europe and beyond, with a particular focus on issues of climate change and of the city.
